The Inspiration

“Princess” is based on a photograph of my granddaughter. I have made a screenprint of my grandkids annually. “Princess” is the 2015 installment. Shepard Fairey’s 2008 Barack Obama “HOPE” poster inspired the design.

The Project

“Princess” is an 11 color print, mostly shades of grey, 6 in all. The prints were made on Stonehenge paper. Images are 17½” x 12” on 24” x 18” sheets. Speedball Acrylic Screen Printing Inks were used. Adobe Photoshop was used for developing the screenprinting plates. Five prints are included in the edition. The project was completed in March 2016.

The Print Progression

The print progression showing the development of “Princess” can be seen in a series of four figures. The left most figure shows the first three colors creating the background and border. The next shows the print after the first four layers of grey were added. The facial image is beginning to emerge. And, the title “Princess” can be seen. The third image shows the print with the addition of two more layers of grey. IIn thte last figure, the dark blue banner highlighting the print’s title, “Princess”, appears. In addition, one more grey layer was added to capture my granddaughter’s curls. The completed print.
